TARDIS Chocolate/Trinket Box

A gift for a Whovian friend, made from 80% recycled paper materials (cardboard, cereal cartons, catalogue papers, etc.), inspired by another photo making its way around the internet, of an adorable TARDIS chocolate box by Michelle Quinn here.

The walls are made from four pieces of rectangular cardboard, held together by sturdy cardstock wrapped around them and painted dark blue. The boxes (including the three stacked squares making up the roof) are stiff cardstock folded into origami boxes and glued together where appropriate. The little light at the top was made using a stiff plastic sheet, cut to shape, scored and folded before adding the roof and gluing it all in place. I added the little details as well, like the ‘POLICE BOX’ labels and the notice outside the door (all handwritten), and the tiny door handle made using thin, twisted wires. The whole thing was then given a few coats of varnish to seal in the paint and give it a smooth appearance.

This is just all levels of awesome would love to see an DIY for it though!

Interview with BangBangNeko

Modeling Questions

How did you get the name handle/gamertag:
I came up with BangBangNeko when me and my cosplay group were just starting out competing. It was just something out of the blue and I didn’t think I would be keeping but alas it stuck. lol

You have been modeling for a while now. What got you interested in modeling?
It was the first time I went to a big convention like Sakuracon; after seeing the fabulous costumes and characters I decided then that I would prefect my skills and be as good or better as the costumers I saw at the convention that day. I also love that you can tell so many stories with photography and to me I like to create scenes that could be in a movie because I’m such a movie buff.

Who is your favorite photographer?
oooooh hard question because everyone has their own style. But I would have to say Big White Bazooka though I’ve never worked with him personally I just love his work. I would love to make an epic costume and shoot with him some day in the future.

What are your obsessions?
Movies, Figure collecting, Creature makeup/ design, costuming, and video games.

Geek/Video Game Questions

What was your first video game (when, and what console)?
My first video game was on the old Nintendo; I was baby and would sit next to my dad with my own controller playing side by side him playing Mario Brothers. Then when I was four I played for the first time by myself Joust.

What was your first Table-Top game (and when)?
My first table top game was ZOMBIES!! I won it at a local zombie costume contests and since my friend was obsessed with zombies I gave it to her and during school she pulled it out and we played a couple games.

What is your favorite video game?
Dang very tough question but for the new generation of games I would say Batman Arkham Asylum; Because I grew up watching the old 90’s Batman cartoons and I have always loved the villains in the Batman series. So getting a chance to play as Batman and seeing all the villains just made me fangirl hard. XD

Older generation; I’d have to say Twisted Metal I played that sooo much when I was little.

What is your favorite type of video game? (rpg, fps, etc)
I love third person RPG because you get to customize your story, character and immerse yourself into the world.

When did you first realize that you were a geek/nerd?
Lol when I was born pretty much my dad is nerd and passed it on to me; When I was little I use to sit and watch old batman cartoons, Freakzoid, tons of Anime and would always try to play with my cousins Star Wars figures. From then on out I’ve never changed I just grew more geeky and hope to pass it on to my children as well. XD
I’d like to thank you for your time, and if any photographers, want to talk to you about modeling where should they go?
You can contact me at my Facebook page; BangBangNeko Cosplay or you can email me at BangBangNeko@gmail.com.

Interview with Athena Hollow

Modeling Questions

How did you get the name handle/gamertag:
“Athena Hollow” came about around 13 years ago. I was a singer in a metal band in high school named “Hollow Faith”, and we all came up with stage names (like any good high school band should! haha). Since it had “Faith” in the name, I spent weeks trying to come with some sort of religious first name. I asked all of my friends, and they suggested Athena, since everyone came to me for advice & I always had my friends’ backs, even if they were in the wrong. Since then, it just kind of stuck.

You have been modeling for a while now. What got you interested in modeling?
Most of my modeling has been… adult. So, that came about in my freshman year in high school. We were instructed to write an essay on what we wanted to be when we grow up. My answer: Pornstar. My logic was that since I wanted to be a famous singer, negative publicity would get my name into the papers faster, and more effectively, than anything else.

So, what started as just a way to get publicity turned into something I really loved doing.

Who is your favorite photographer?
I’ve been lucky and become great friends, with some fabulous photographers. Not counting 2 of the best people I’ve worked with, (Miss Envy & Funkatron) I’d have to say Philip Warner (aka Lithium Picnic) is probably my favorite photographer. Even with the drama aside, from a few years ago, he’s still an amazingly talented photographer and it would be a dream to work with him one day.

What are your obsessions?

Gaming in general is a pretty big obsession. Not only do I adore cosplaying video game characters or any other subject, I just helped finish writing a table-top RPG ruleset. Even started an adult site based on geeks & gamers about 5 years ago.

Geek/Video Game Questions

What was your first video game (when, and what console)?
The first gaming console I owned was an NES back in 1990. I had played Atari & Coleco at friends’ houses before that, but Christmas in 1990, my parents got me an NES.

The first game I remember playing was actually the Ninja Turtles Arcade Game at Chuck E Cheese. The first one I owned (other than SMB since it came with the NES) was the McKids video game. I know, lame, but was a blast to play when you’re 5.

What was your first Table-Top game (and when)?
I started tabletop gaming when I was 16 or 17. 2nd ed. AD&D. I remember staying up with the GM all night working on my character (because I was completely clueless on what to make and how to do it at that time). Finally ended up making a general mage, that was a mouthy royal trying to prove she was more than just a princess. Yep.

What is your favorite video game?
Now this is a toughie. I have several favorites, and the list changes depending on what I’m in the mood to play. I would have to say, if I had to narrow it down to a few, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, Dragon Age, & the Mass Effect series are up on the list. OH! And Uplink. LOVE Uplink.

What is your favorite type of video game? (rpg, fps, etc)

I’m an RPG gamer more than anything else. I love the indepth storylines, character development, and general game mechanics. I used to only be good at turn based JRPGS, but I’ve since found that given a mouse & keyboard instead of a controller, I am damn good at FPS/TPS RPGs too :)

When did you first realize that you were a geek/nerd?

I guess I never really “realized” it, per say. I just kind of always “was”. I was put into advanced classes in 1st grade, and got picked on (a lot) for my “style”, lack of boobs, and general interests (mostly reading a LOT, and gaming). Once I turned 16, I learned to own this all and used it as an attribute, instead of a limitation.

I’d like to thank you for your time, and if any photographers, want to talk to you about modeling where should they go?

Interview with Zelda!

Modeling Questions

How did you get the name handle/gamertag:
Actually…I was dating this guy for many years. When we first met, his friends all liked to give him a hard time for dating a nerd and refused to call me by my real name. Because of all my Zelda tattoos, they called me Zelda (My friends refused to call him by his real name too - They called him Craigslist. That’s where we met). The name stuck, and I ended up choosing it when I first started modeling. If I had things to do over again now, I would have picked a different name (I had no idea how involved in modeling I was going to get!) But, Zelda I have become, and it fits me very well. Half the people I know now don’t even call me by my real name anymore.

You have been modeling for a while now. What got you interested in modeling?
I first got into modeling through cosplay. I had been cosplaying for about 6 years at that point (10 years now). I never had any photos of my costumes and in all honesty, I was very camera shy. I ended up really loving it though, and today I couldn’t imagine being without it.

Who is your favorite photographer?
That’s a loaded question! I have been incredibly lucky to work with the talented people I have worked with. Adam Chilson is probably my favorite photographer, although I haven’t worked with him. I’ve made so many incredible friends and worked with so many talented artists over the years, but I have to put J S Edmonds at the top of my list, because we work together so often and so well, and he’s such a great friend. Grant Palmer, Art Villanueva, OnePixArt and Saltwater Production Company are all also incredible people to work with too.

What are your obsessions?
Obsessions! Beyond cosplay and costuming, it definitely has to be metal. I’m passionate about a lot of things, but I wouldn’t say I obsess over anything like I do costumes and metal.

Geek/Video Game Questions

What was your first video game (when, and what console)?
Oh jeez. I have no idea. My father was a geek, so I got started at a very young age - I’m talking like 3 years old here. Some of my earliest memories are sitting on my father’s lap playing Zork and Myst. I also played text based adventures and the NES. I’m old :(

What was your first Table-Top game (and when)?
D&D 3.5 - I played for the first time a couple years ago. I haven’t had the opportunity to play recently, I do sorta miss the hell out of it actually. I’d really like to check out Pathfinder sometime.

What is your favorite video game?
It’s a tie between Legend of Dragoon, Link to the Past, Super Castlevania IV, Final Fantasy 7, Halo 2, Bioshock, and Chrono Trigger. I know that’s a lot more than one game. It’s like trying to pick your favorite child. :(

What is your favorite type of video game? (rpg, fps, etc)
First person shooters and fighters. Anything that allows me to be competitive.

When did you first realize that you were a geek/nerd?
Oh, I have been a geek since I was a baby. I really had no choice in the matter :3

I’d like to thank you for your time, and if any photographers, want to talk to you about modeling where should they go?

Interview with DeziDesire

Modeling Questions

How did you get the name handle/gamertag: -
I wanted to keep my first name the same as my real name, as I’d rather be known and called by my real name then something made up (I’m not very good at the secret identity thing I guess, haha) - To make my stage name more fancy than my real name I changed my last name to Desire, which is what my first name translates to. Simple and effective.

You have been modeling for a while now. What got you interested in modeling? -
I remember spending lots of time when I was young admiring photography and learning about the art of photography, I was always setting up some elaborate photo of myself with my camera on timer. Whenever I come up with an artistic idea it gets translated into how it would be done through photography, my mind has always worked that way. So eventually through what I’d done by myself as a portfolio I put myself out there to other photographers with my ideas and interest in being involved in the creative ideas of others as well and it’s grown from there. I use myself as a tool for artistic expression and it’s what I’m passionate about and forever growing and improving on.

Who is your favorite photographer?
Philip Warner. I’ve been following his work since I was first interested in alternative/fetish photography, he was the first photographer I bothered to remember by name as he was a big inspiration for me. He is definitely on my bucket list of photographers I’d love to work with.

What are your obsessions?
Sci-fi is definitely at the top of my list. From realistic to cheesy, I love it all. Stargate is #1 for me. I also obviously have quite a passion/obsession for photography and all aspects involved in it. Costume and prop making/designing, etc. Comics are high on my list of obsessions also, I have quite a collection these days. Favorites being anything by Terry Moore, Sandman, Batwoman, Tank Girl, and Deadpool.

Geek/Video Game Questions

What was your first video game (when, and what console)?
I wasn’t raised around much for technology, so I can remember the first time I played a video game it was Super Mario Bros. (on NES) at my uncles place and being amazed and played for hours, I was likely around 8 years old.

What was your first Table-Top game (and when)?
To be honest I have no idea, I don’t even know where to begin to guess. Table-top games were far more popular with my family when I was a kid.

What is your favorite video game?
Stubbs the Zombie, that game makes me very happy when I play it.
It’s amusing, simple, and fun; definitely a feel good game.
I love retro style futuristic sci-fi themes and the soundtrack is beautiful.

What is your favorite type of video game? (rpg, fps, etc)
Games involving strategy/puzzles such as Legend of Zelda games, Plants vs. Zombies, etc.

When did you first realize that you were a geek/nerd?
When all my friends were talking about star wars and I thought it sounded like the coolest thing ever, but my parents wouldn’t let me watch them because they thought I was too little to watch that type of thing (I was around 6 or 7) so I was upset for a long time about that. Then one day my parents came up to me and said “We’ve talked it over and have decided that… we’re going to let you watch Star Wars” and I still can’t remember many points in my life where I’ve been this happy. I can vividly remember jumping up and down on the couch crying with joy while saying thank you over and over again. My love of sci-fi has never died down since then, Star Wars was my gateway drug.

I’d like to thank you for your time, and if any photographers, want to talk to you about modeling where should they go?

Interview with Dayna Baby Lou

Today we got to sit down and talk with Dayna Baby Lou, cosplay model and amazing geek! Peek down and check out her cosplay and interview.

Modeling Questions

How did you get the name handle/gamertag:
When I was in high school one of my friends used to always call me Dayna Lou. When that stuck, they then all started calling me Baby Lou (I was never really sure why..but whatevs lol) So eventually it got to the point where they just starting shortening it to Lou? Ya still dunno..So…When I was trying to think of a good nickname to use…I just put them all together and find it works :)

You have been modeling for a while now. What got you interested in modeling?
I’ve been modeling since I was a child, but it has never been more fun than it is now! I love to model cosplay and create my own costumes. My biggest interest now is transforming myself into something else…something different and exciting! that is when I am most excited to be in front of the camera. Getting into character during shooting is a blast! I also love creating imagery with a lot of movement and color!

Who is your favorite photographer?
I have a few favs but for cosplay I’m gonna have to say Edge Photography. They are great friends of mine and also because one of the guys I’ve known for over 16 years.

What are your obsessions?
So many!! I love designing, sewing, video games of all kinds, movies (action & horror), art, books (mostly history) being outdoors…the list just keeps going…

Super Mario Bros & DuckHunt on the good ol’ NES..early 90’s I believe.

Interview with RikkuGrape

Modeling Questions

How did you get the name handle/gamertag:

The name RikkuGrape is kind of a silly one, I know, but it comes from a few inside jokes. To keep it short the story goes like this: my very first cosplay was Rikku from Final Fantasy X, and, at this restaurant near my house they have a character on the children’s menu whose name is “Regina Grape”. The two ended up getting combined over time and my tag just kind of morphed into RikkuGrape :3

You have been modeling for a while now. What got you interested in modeling?

To be honest I never started out thinking of modeling, I just started making costumes I loved and then wanting to document them as time went on. I never thought I would be capable of being a model. I can be so derby in front of a camera, but having my costumes really helps me embody a character and it can make it a lot of fun too.

Who is your favorite photographer?

My favorite photographer? I don’t know! But, one of my bestest friends takes majority of the photos of my costumes and I love her and her work. She is such a wonderful person and a truly talented photographer. Plus she puts up with my shenanigans.

What are your obsessions?

Zelda. And dogs. I love them both. A lot. I literally play Zelda games so many times through I am a living walkthrough. A 100% Completion Guide. And dogs. Dogs are so cute! If you ask my friends I am always that weird kid who talks to peoples dogs. Like, if I’m walking down the street and I see a dog outside of a shop all alone I will pet it and start talking to it. No big deal, right? Well, maybe it is kind of strange but they are so cute I can’t help it.

Geek/Video Game Questions

What was your first video game (when, and what console)?

Paper Mario on the N64 was the first game I ever beat all the way through. I was probably 7 or something like that but I remember it so well! And I’ve loved it ever since.

What was your first Table-Top game (and when)?

To be honest I’ve never really played any table top games :o Unless Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh counts? In which case I was in elementary school the first time I played themÉ

What is your favorite video game?

Zelda forever! I love so many games, but I have to hand it to Zelda. It was probably the first game I ever played and I’ve loved nearly every installment in the series. What can I say? I have a crush

What is your favorite type of video game? (rpg, fps, etc)

I have two: RPGs and FPS. They tie. I love western RPGs, especially the Elderscolls games. But there is just something about and FPS that is super enjoyable.

When did you first realize that you were a geek/nerd?

When I was in day care after my kindergarten we had a SNES with Donkey Kong Country and I used to play it all the time. I never let anyone else play either, I was such a meanie! But that’s when I knew…

I’d like to thank you for your time, and if any photographers, want to talk to you about modeling where should they go?

You are so welcome, and thank you so much for this opportunity!

Random Geek Fact: TARDIS in Fallout

In the popular video game Fallout, You can see the Tardis from Doctor Who

When the player character enters the map, all that can be seen (beyond the usual desert dust) is a large blue police box, common in Great Britain around the 1960s. When the player approaches this strangely-located object, the light on top starts spinning, and the box slowly vanishes with a whooshing sound, leaving behind only a Motion Sensor.
